Finding the Right School District for Your Child

If you have children, you know that virtually every decision you make in life must be informed by what’s best for them. Finding a new home is no different; where you purchase your next home will necessarily be informed by how it will impact your child. This article briefly discusses how to find relevant information about local schools.

Knowing where to look for information, as always, is a critical piece of knowledge to have in your pocket. As an initial matter, the district’s website will have plenty of information on the school, though it will likely be skewed to show the district in the best light. To get a clearer picture, it might be in your best interest to reach out to the local parent teacher association; they will provide a much better snapshot of the quality of the school; how active the parents are, what they think of the caliber of the school, etc. Another resource is SchoolDigger.com and GreatSchools.org. Further, an experienced real estate agent has likely done their homework on the local schools; given how important local schools are, it would be a dereliction of an agent’s duty not to know something

Knowing what to look for is equally useful information. The size of the classes, the existence of programs for children with special languages, elective courses, immersion programs, etc., are all important things to be aware of. Further, you want to know who is running the school, do some background research on the principal and vice principal. Ultimately, you are looking for the school that is the best fit for your child.

At the Chernov Team we understand that knowledge is power, and knowledge of how to find the best schools for your child is powerful knowledge indeed. At the Chernov Team we know that whoever comes to the table most prepared leaves with the most, and the Chernov Team always leaves the table with the most.
