Getting Creative with Limited Space: Gardening Edition

garden

Let’s be honest, everybody wants a lavish yard; however, it’s difficult to find an affordable house with a gorgeous yard that is affordable in Studio City, Sherman Oaks, or Encino. We are all familiar with the adage “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”, and that’s precisely what this article aims to help you with. It’s entirely possible to purchase a home without that luxurious backyard, and still create a beautiful nature-y environment. That’s right, just because you couldn’t afford a half-acre yard, that doesn’t mean a gorgeous garden is a pipe dream. Let’s get creative!

(1) SPACE IS AT A MINIMUM, BUT GOING VERTICAL ISN’T OFF LIMITS

That’s right, it’s amazing how many people forget that going vertical is a way to fit more “things” in the same space! From a visual angle, going vertical actually makes a space seem larger. Going vertical also has the added benefit of reducing the number of unwanted visitors that are attracted to your snazzy new mini-garden.

(2) LET’S GO MAXIMUM VERTICAL – THE CEILING

Keeping in line with (1), there is absolutely nothing wrong with hanging plants from the ceiling (make sure they’re high enough that your taller friends won’t bump their heads though… not everyone is a grown man standing 5”8). Grab so mason jars or aluminum cans, tie some string to it, plant something small, and let the aromas fill your home.

(3) MICRO GARDENS HAVE A BIG IMPACT

Chances are there isn’t enough room for a massive planter, so you will need to think outside the box. Container gardens are a fantastic alternative to the green thumb homeowner, accomplishing the same goal as a large garden with smaller space requirements (especially when you combine (1) and (2). At the Chernov Team, we understand that knowledge is power, especially when it comes to maximizing the use of your space. This advice isn’t just for people with smaller areas to work with, creative planning can turn an ok backyard into the talk of the neighborhood – which bodes well for the value of your home no matter how you look at it. At the Chernov Team, we understand that whoever comes to the table most prepared leaves with the most, and the Chernov Team always leave the table with the most.
