In order to come up with their list, Realtor.com collected the top keywords that people used in searches between April 2019 and December 2019. The final list omitted responses that appeared consistently across the state categories.
Thus, this study can be used as a proxy for what adds the most value to your property (it stands to reason that if more people are looking for a specific feature, and your houses has that future, more people will want to purchase your house. The more people who want your house, the higher you can raise the price). Before we get to the nitty-gritty, it should be noted that most people want expanded living spaces (man-caves, she-sheds, workshops, and granny pods were quite popular searches). Perhaps this is because they want extra rental income, or perhaps this is because they simply want more space. Either way, the people have spoken. Notably, people don’t want stairs.
